Well tomorrow I weigh in for the first time in four weeks. I'm really nervous, because I don't feel like I've lost much, if any weight. I know, I know...I could have lost inches, I could have gained muscle..yadda yadda yadda. However I don't think I've lost inches. I didn't measure, but I should feel more of a difference in my clothes by now. This is my 5th week. Now granted I haven't gone to the gym 5x's a week for that long, but I have majorly changed my eating habits, and have gone to the gym quite often. The past two weeks have been very consistent. I'm burning 600-800 calories per day at the gym alone.
Anyway, this got me to thinking. I started digging on the Internet and tried to figure out what I was doing wrong. Though I had been counting every calorie, carb, and fat gram, I didn't really know what my daily target should be. I had tried an equation at the beginning of all this to figure that out, and being that I'm a such math wiz *sarcasm...I came up with a ridiculously low number of calories. I knew it was incorrect, so I made an educated guess, and that's what I've been shooting for. That educated guess was 1600 calories per day. I've been sticking to that pretty well. Just to test it out, I averaged my calorie intake for the past 2 weeks, and it was in fact 1600, so I've been accomplishing my goal.
However, I recently found an online calculator that does the math for you! When I entered my information, it told me that I should be eating 2130 calories per day! That's a difference of 530 calories for all those fellow math geniuses out there. (I checked it with my calculator before posting.) This number seemed a bit high to me, and so far away from what I was eating. It also said on the site that if you're not eating enough calories per day, it can actually slow down your metabolism and cause you to not lose or even gain weight!
I decided to do some more research and see what I could find. I borrowed a "Biggest Loser" book from Lerraine. In the book they have a simplified formula to figure this out, and when I did it, I got yet another number. They're number said it should be more like 1960, still a difference of 360. I don't know which number to go by, but either way it looks like I haven't been eating enough. I haven't made any changes yet. Still waiting to talk to my trainer and Kristi about all this. It is just so confusing, and it blows my mind that I might need to eat MORE.
Any thoughts on this?
Also, Noel recently gave me her old ipod, so now I can have a gym jam! I'm looking for songs that will keep me moving while I'm watching Go Go Granny. Any suggestions?
