With televisions on nearly every machine, and flat screens hanging from the ceiling, scores of muscle head men and tiny toned tan women..there are plenty of things to watch while I'm trying NOT to focus on how bad my legs hurt and how much more time I have to go on the eliptical. However, I don't find myself watching any of those things. I find that I'm drawn to more inspiring visions.
What is more inspiring than a ripped gym rat, you may ask. Well, first of all..people like me inspire me greatly. When I see an extremely overweight person pushing themselves, I want to yell at them "Keep going! You can do it!" Last week, I actually let that slip out once. I was mortified that it had actually come out of my mouth, but the woman seemed very appreciative, and I thought maybe I shouldn't hesitate to do that sort of thing. I mean, if someone said that to me, it would make me feel good.
The other inspiration I find myself watching are the old people. LOL This one little old lady in particular. She wears these cute little green and white stripped pants, her white hair pulled back neatly into a bun, an oddly shaped wide billed white ball cap. I call her "Go Go Granny." She just keeps going and going on that treadmill. She puts me to shame. LOL I hate the treadmill! I just keep watching her and thinking, "I hope I'm 70 and still coming here." Not because I want to be still trying to lose weight mind you, but because it's a part of who I am, and it's how I stay healthy. I'm sure it takes real commitment to still come to the gym at that age. Well at any age it takes commitment, but I know how my muscles feel and my bones crack now. I can't imagine what it will be like in 40 years!
So here's to the fat girls and Go Go Granny...you are making a difference in my life.
